ABOUT US

The Columbia Journal of Art History is an undergraduate publication that features unique, individual research by undergraduate students. We aim to give undergraduates an opportunity to contribute to the field. We welcome papers focusing on any topic and using any methodology within the field of Art History. We accept versions or part of a course research paper, independent study, or honors thesis. We are looking for high quality essays with deep insights on the traditions of art.

OUR HISTORY

The Columbia Undergraduate Journal of Art History, formerly the Columbia Art History Initiative, was founded as a division of the History Department’s Columbia Journal of History in 2018. Originally conceived as both a vital and previously absent space for undergraduate art history majors to publish original research and foster interdepartmental connections with history majors, the initiative grew to the point it began to publish an independent, Art History-focused publication in Spring 2020.

OUR MISSIONS

  1. Aide an atomized art history-interested undergraduate community.

  2. Create a network among students who share a passion for art history.

  3. Popularize the critical discourse surrounding art in our larger undergraduate community.

  4. Provide students who are interested in art history with a platform to share their work with peers.

  5. Build opportunities for students interested in pursuing further education.
